Forty children and four teachers had a miraculous escape when a school bus caught fire near Baran village in the district on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 2 pm when a school bus of Asian Senior Secondary School of the village had just left the school to drop children and teachers off to their homes. A conductor was also present in the bus.

The bus driver said he saw smoke coming out of the engine just after they left the school. “I immediately stopped the bus, but before I could understand anything, the engine caught fire,” he added.

The teachers and conductor helped the kids to get out of the bus and called the fire brigade.

An official of the fire brigade said the reason behind the fire might be short-circuiting.
