Five students travelling in a private school van had a narrow escape as the vehicle suddenly caught fire on Friday morning.

The driver halted the vehicle as soon he saw fumes coming out of the engine, allowing occupants to safely come out of the van before the fire engulfed its engine. The fire was doused within 10 minutes. A short circuit in the engine’s wiring was reported to be the main cause behind the incident that took place around 8 am near the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

The students were shifted to another vehicle to drop them at their school at Chandawali village, said police sources.
