The order issued on Wednesday stated that the decision was taken on the basis of a report by the District Education Officer (DEO), in the larger public interest.

“A flood-like situation has arisen in the district due to continuous rainfall and rising water levels of rivers and drains. There is a strong likelihood of waterlogging in the low-lying areas, disruption of traffic and danger to public safety,” the order read.

The District Disaster Management Authority has advised residents to stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel, riverbanks, vulnerable bridges and low-lying roads near rivers and drains.

For assistance in flood situations, residents have been advised to call the District Flood Control Room on 01262-230401, which will function round the clock.

“The local Municipal Corporation/Committees, Irrigation Department, PWD (B & R), HSVP and PHED officers/officials shall remain on high alert and carry out desilting of drains, flood water pumping and embankment protection works,” the order stated.

The Health Department has been directed to deploy mobile medical units in vulnerable villages.

“Police, Fire Services and Civil Defence Volunteers shall remain alert for evacuation and rescue operations,” the order added.
