Kurukshetra admn orders closure of schools, colleges in Shahabad and Pehowa

Schools shut on September 2 in 17 villages due to heavy rain, waterlogging

The Kurukshetra district administration has ordered the closure of all government and private schools, colleges and anganwadi centres in the Shahabad and Pehowa sub-division till further orders.

In view of the continuous rise in water levels of the Markanda river, a flood-like situation has arisen in parts of the district. Therefore, all government and private schools, colleges and anganwadi centres in the Shahabad and Pehowa sub-division will remain closed till further orders, the District Magistrate-cum-Chairperson District Disaster Management Authority, Kurukshetra, said.

As per the orders, citizens have been advised to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel, and going towards river banks, vulnerable bridges and low-lying roads adjoining the Markanda river.

The Municipal Committees, Irrigation Department, PWD (B&R), and PHED officials have been directed to remain on high alert and carry out desilting of drains, floodwater pumping, and embankment protection works.

As per information, nearly 18 villages of Shahabad and Pehowa have been affected due to waterlogging.

Meanwhile, a one-day off has been declared in government and private schools of 17 villages of Shahabad and Pehowa blocks due to heavy rain and waterlogging.

In an order issued on Monday evening, District Education Officer Vinod Kaushik announced a holiday on September 2 in schools of 17 villages.

The villages include Karah, Adhoya, Gangheri, Diwana, Azmatpur, Khajanpur, Tabra, Naisi, and Jalbhera of Pehowa block, and Jhansa, Malikpur, Gumti, Dayalnagar Bazigar Colony, Madanpur, Tangore, Kathwa, and Mughal Majra of Shahabad block.
