Gurugram, February 11

With an increase in the number of economic offences, the Gurugram police plans to set up second economic offences wing (EOW).

Currently 22 inspectors are struggling with almost 200 pending cases, many involving several crores and multi agencies. It takes an average of over two to three months for just the registration of an FIR. The case like Wednesday’s 500-crore fraud plot sale scam requires dedicated efforts and trained technical support.

As per the records, the city registers an average of three complaints per day, a majority pertaining to realty transactions. The cases suffer due to prolonged investigation and disposal period. The second EOW will be set up in the office of cybercrime police station and will be functional by the coming week. Eight cops, including an Inspector rank officer have been selected so far and the jurisdiction will be finalised soon. DCP (headquarters) Astha Modi will be monitoring the EOWs.

Gurugram leads the state and NCR in white-collar crimes. “To divide the workload of the EOW and for speedy investigation, one new EOW has been established”, said CP KK Rao.
