Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsAlleging complete misrule by the BJP-led Haryana government, Congress MP Kumari Selja on Monday said law and order has collapsed, unemployment is rising and drugs are being sold openly under the government’s nose.
Speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the District Bar Association, Sirsa, where she was the chief guest, Selja claimed that the BJP has ruled Haryana for 11 years, but people have seen no real development. “Crime and unemployment are increasing every day. The government has failed to control drug trafficking and the youth is being destroyed by addiction,” she said.
Selja alleged that when residents of Sirsa raised their voice against drugs, the local Superintendent of Police was transferred overnight. “If the police truly want, no drug trafficker can even enter their area,” she said, demanding strict action against drug dealers.
The Sirsa MP also spoke about Haryana’s youth migrating abroad through illegal “donkey routes”. She said unemployment was the main reason behind this dangerous trend, with young people either selling or mortgaging their land and homes to leave India, only to be treated like criminals in foreign countries. Selja urged the government to take strong action against agencies involved in such illegal activities.
On political situation in Bihar, Selja said people there want change and a Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) government will be formed after the elections. “Rahul Gandhi’s visit has given people new confidence in the alliance,” she said, adding that the BJP lacks a strong leadership face and voters have rejected Nitish Kumar’s rule.
Selja announced a grant of Rs 25 lakh from her MP fund for the Bar Association. She promised to raise the issue of advocate insurance and assured that the demand for a women bar room would be given priority.
Special guest District and Sessions Judge Puneesh Jindia praised the Bar’s independent role in upholding justice. Several senior advocates were honored at the event.
