Despite bringing the matter to the attention of the authorities concerned, the issue remains unresolved.
Lokesh Bhardwaj, a villager, said locals had been suffering from water-borne diseases for the past
several months.
“The situation has become so bad that we have to place sandbags in the street just to move around,” he said.
He said elevation and drainage of the front street had been made the matters worse.
As a result, water is unable to drain properly, leading to stagnation and stench in
the neighbourhood.
“The houses are now lower than the front street. Dirty water is entering homes and has made it difficult for children and the elderly to step outside,” he added.
Ritu, a villager, said she had already complained on online portals and helpline numbers. However, no action had been taken so far, she said.
Satish, husband of Sarpanch Renu, acknowledged the issue and claimed that the level of the street and drain would be raised to resolve the problem.
“Workers were sent to start the work, but they had to return as the street was blocked due to construction material dumped by a villager. Once the street gets cleared, the levelling work will begin,” he assured.
