Shamli encounter: Inspector from Uttar Pradesh succumbs to injuries

Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) inspector Sunil, who sustained bullet injuries during an encounter with gangsters on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, died at a private hospital in Gurugram today.

The encounter occurred at Utpur village, located in Shamli’s Jhinjhana area near the Haryana-UP border. The Inspector was critically injured while engaging with members of a notorious gang. In the shootout, a wanted criminal, Arshad—affiliated with Mustafa Kagga and Mukim Kala gang—was killed, along with his accomplices Manjeet from Sonepat, Satish from Madhuban in Karnal, and one other unidentified member.

Sunil was rushed to a private hospital in Karnal, and was later referred to a hospital in Gurugram. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Sub-Inspector Jaiveer, who was present with Sunil during the encounter, confirmed the death. “Despite undergoing surgery on Tuesday evening to remove the bullets, his condition worsened due to complications,” he said.

Sunil was a decorated officer and had been part of the UP STF since its inception in 1998. Known for his bravery and impressive track record, he had been involved in numerous encounters throughout his career.

The state mourns the loss of this brave officer, who sacrificed his life in the line of duty. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh for the martyr’s family and assured a government job for one family member. Additionally, a road in Shamli district will be named in honor of Inspector Sunil Kumar, commemorating his supreme sacrifice for the state," said Yogi Adityanath on social platform x.
