Punjab DSP  loses job for Bishnoi interview

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government on Thursday dismissed Deputy Superintendent of Police Gursher Singh Sandhu for “denting the image of the police department” by facilitating a video interview of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi during his custody at the Central Investigation Agency, Kharar, in March 2023.

Two persons — Virender Rana of Golni village in Yamunanagar district and Pankaj Malik of Uttar Pradesh — had died on the spot, while Arjun Rana of Unheri village in Yamunanagar district had succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in SAS Nagar on December 29.

Superintendent of Police Rajiv Deswal said, “The services of nine officials have been terminated for negligence in duty.”

The police have arrested three persons — Sachin Handa of Chhachhrauli town, Arbaaz Khan of Tajewala village and Harsh Bali of Gandhi Nagar Colony in Yamunanagar — in connection with the triple murder case.

Five teams of the district police have been formed to nab the remaining suspects.

A team of the CIA-II arrested Harsh Bali from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and produced him before a court in Jagadhri on Tuesday. The court remanded him in five-day police custody. Sachin Handa and Arbaaz Khan were arrested earlier in connection with the case. In a Facebook post, Noni Rana, “owing allegiance” to the Lawrence Bishnoi and Kala Rana gangs, had claimed responsibility for the triple murder.

Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana, who is the MLA from the Radaur Assembly segment (the Kheri Lakkha Singh police post falls in this segment), had instructed the SP to take strict action in the matter.
