Signature campaign, awareness drives held to caution people against drug abuse

Rohtak Deputy Commissioner Dharmender Singh has called on residents of the district to participate in the creation of a drug-free society and state.

In a message released on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, he said every citizen should cooperate in accelerating the efforts meant to curb drug-addiction.

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) also observed the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking under the guidance of District and Sessions Judge Neerja Kulwant Kalsan and supervision of DLSA Secretary-cum-Chief Judicial Magistrate Dr Tarannum Khan.

Helpline number 15100 is being operated by NALSA, on which citizens can call and get free legal assistance at any time.

This year’s theme is ‘Break the Cycle of Drug Abuse, Stop Organised Crime’.

The Institute of Mental Health at Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, also organised several drug awareness programmes on Thursday.

A help desk and a photo exhibition were put up by the State Drug-Dependence Treatment Centre at the PGIMS OPD to create awareness among people about drug abuse.

Dr Ritvik Gupta, a senior resident at the Institute of Mental Health, said one must make up his mind to give up drug addiction.
