Sirsa farmers seek relief from wild boar menace

Farmers plagued by the wild boar menace approached Sirsa DC on Wednesday, seeking relief from the ongoing threat of the animals. Farmers from the Rania and Ellenabad blocks submitted a memorandum, highlighting the significant increase in the population of wild boar particularly in the Ellenabad area and Kharia, Nuhiyanwali, Pirkhera, Modawali villages, including several others in the Baragudha and Rania blocks.

Led by Lakvinder Singh Aulakh, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Ekta (BKE), the farmers not only described the extensive damage the animals had inflicted on their crops but the life-threatening attacks on farmers and labourers working in the fields.

Farm leader Prakash Mamera recounted a recent incident where a farmer was seriously injured by wild boars in his field in Bhuratwala village. The farmers said despite submitting a similar memorandum in December 2023, no action had been taken. They said legal proceedings must be initiated against the departments concerned if wild boars caused harm to people or crops. The DC assured them their concerns would be addressed.
