Following the transfer of Sirsa SP Mayank Gupta late on Friday, Rania police station SHO Dinesh Kumar has been suspended for inaction in drug-related deaths case at Ottu village in Rania tehsil. A departmental inquiry will also be conducted against him. Additional SHO Gurminder Singh has been appointed the new in-charge of Rania police station. He took over the responsibilities on Saturday.

Sirsa’s new SP, Deepak Saharan, assumed office on Saturday morning and visited Rania police station shortly after. His visit came after two young men died due to drug consumption near the Ottu head on the Ghaggar river two days earlier.

SP Saharan inquired into the incident and ordered strict action. He also visited the victims’ families, assuring them of proper action, and held a meeting with the village council, warning that drug traffickers would be sent to jail. He shared his mobile number with locals to report any drug-related activity. One suspect has already been taken into custody.

Speaking to the media on Saturday evening, SP Saharan said that any police officer found involved in drug-related activities would face strict action. He confirmed coordination with the GRP and stated that all necessary steps would be taken to curb drug abuse.

According to sources, the transfers followed a high-level meeting on Friday with the new DGP, OP Singh, which reportedly focused on drug prevention in Sirsa. The recent drug-related deaths had drawn official displeasure, and the SP’s transfer orders were issued overnight.

Mayank Gupta has not yet been assigned a new posting and separate orders for his posting will be issued. The transfers reflect the administration’s dissatisfaction with the handling of drug control in Sirsa. During a previous visit, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had expressed concern over the lack of measures to curb drug abuse and had ordered strict action, which also led to the Police Lines posting of Nathusari Chopta SHO Rajkumar at the time.

Meanwhile, Inspector Dinesh Kumar returned from Diwali leave on Friday and immediately went to Ottu village to investigate the drug-related deaths, taking one suspect into custody. He had served at Rania police station for nearly 19 months.
