The police on Wednesday registered an FIR against a man for allegedly harassing his neighbour, a 21-year-old woman, who attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at Goshala Mohalla in Sirsa on December 2. The woman was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where she regained consciousness and gave a detailed statement to the police. Following her statement, the police registered an FIR against the accused, identified as Neeraj.

The woman, who works as a domestic help, lives with her father. She alleged that Neeraj had been harassing her for over a year. She alleged that when she went for work at a hotel on Dabwali Road, Neeraj would follow her, stop her on the way and behave inappropriately.

She stated that she had informed Neeraj’s mother and sister about his behaviour, but to no avail. Instead, things became worse as Neeraj then installed a CCTV camera outside his house, which was positioned directly towards the woman’s home. She alleged that Neeraj constantly monitored her movements through the camera, which made her feel unsafe and humiliated.

She said unable to bear the mental pressure and harassment, she consumed phenyl. When her health deteriorated, some neighbors took her to the hospital.

The police have registered a case against Neeraj and his family. They said a thorough investigation is underway.
