In his complaint to the police, Navneet Singh stated that his village was under the 10-km radius of the toll plaza and was exempted from paying the toll charges. “On Monday evening, I was on my way to Kaithal but I was stopped by the toll plaza employees and they started misbehaving. I told them that I am a resident and my village was exempted from paying the toll, but they started beating me. They threatened to kill me, and the other commuters recorded the videos”, he added.

After getting the information, the residents and the members of the farmer unions reached the toll plaza and saw that they were not charged at the toll in the evening, and the vehicles were allowed to go without paying toll charges till the case was not registered. A case was registered at Pehowa Sadar police station and six accused were arrested.

BKU (Pehowa) spokesman Prince Waraich said that farmer Navneet Singh was thrashed by the toll plaza’s employees following which they were not charged at the toll plaza in the evening. The general manager of the toll company has assured the farmer that no such incident will occur in the future. It has also been decided that the employees will wear uniform and an identity card so that the commuters can identify the employees. If any such incident is repeated then strict action will be taken by the residents and the union against the toll company.
