The injured, residents of Kaithal, were identified as Rishi (55), his wife Leela Devi (52), sister-in-law Santosh (45) and relative Praveen (40). Police said five passengers died on the spot, while Vanshika succumbed to injuries later at a private hospital.

According to preliminary information, Leela Devi had undergone a surgery recently and her family was on its way to Mullana in Ambala for a follow-up consultation and medicines. Overspeeding is suspected to be the cause of the accident.

The collision was so severe that both cars were mangled beyond recognition, making it difficult for police and locals to rescue those trapped inside.

Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Pehowa, said his uncle Pawan, who lived in Gulab Nagar, Yamunanagar, was travelling to Kaithal to attend the cremation of his brother-in-law Rajesh Kumar. “Around 6.30 am, as their car crossed Pindarsi bus stand, a rashly driven vehicle coming from the opposite direction rammed into it head-on,” he said in his complaint.

Road Safety Cell Incharge Sher Singh confirmed the sequence of events. “Around 6.50 am, information was received regarding a head-on collision near Pindarsi village. The injured were rushed to hospitals and both vehicles were removed to clear traffic,” he said.

SHO of Kuk police station Dinesh Chauhan said: “Six persons have died while four are injured. A case has been registered on the basis of the complaint and further investigation is underway.”

The injured are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kurukshetra.
