Hisar, February 19

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) Haryana has decided to burn effigies of the Haryana Government and organise demonstrations at the BJP offices in all district headquarters on February 21 to demand the opening of all highways and link roads blocked by the Haryana Police, release of arrested persons, restoration of Internet services, and ensure free movement of people.

The meeting held at Kisan Bhawan in Jind was presided over by three member presidium, comprising Phool Singh Sheokand, Prahlad Singh Bharukhera and Mandeep Nathwan, and represented by various farmer bodies affiliated to the SKM. SKM leader Inderjit Singh said the leaders deliberated on difficulties being faced by the people of Haryana due to unwarranted measures resorted by the Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP-JJP government in order to prevent the farmers belonging to certain organisations from going to Delhi.

He said the leaders belonging to all constituent farm outfits who attended the meeting expressed anger on the excesses being unleashed by the Haryana Police at the borders, including firing rubber bullets and using tear gas shells, injuring several farmers.

“The Samyukt Kisan Morcha is committed to basic demands of farmers such as legal guarantee for all crops on the MSP formula of Swaminathan Commission recommendations, electricity amendment Bill, loan waiver, justice for the victims of Lakhimpur Khiri and other issues. We will implement the next course of action as decided by the national general body meeting of the SKM to be held in Delhi on February 22,” he said.

Singh said the SKM Haryana will work for bringing together all farmers’ organisations, trade unions and other mass organisations for fighting against the pro-corporate communal and authoritarian Modi government and resolving all pending issues.

Meanwhile, uneasy calm prevailed at the Khanauri-Data Singh Wala border as a group of youth today resorted to slogan shouting while trying to get close to the sealed border. The Haryana Police, however, took positions and issued a warning. Later, the DSP posted at the border held talks with the peace committee and urged them to ensure peace at the site.
