According to the police, he had gone to the lake with five of his friends — Pradeep, Manoj, Bhagirath, Sudesh and one other person — on Thursday.

They were consuming alcohol near the lake, when he suddenly stood up and started walking. He slipped on the wet soil and fell into a deep pit. Prem’s cousin Subhash said his friends fled the spot and later sent news of the tragedy to the family through a child.

Inspector Jagjit Singh said they were investigating the case.
