Sonepat, Bhiwani shine in state-level athletics championship

A three-day state-level senior athletics championship for men and women concluded with a display of talent and competitive spirit. The event witnessed participation from athletes across Haryana.

In the women’s category, Sonepat won the overall trophy, while Karnal secured the runner-up trophy. Similarly, in the men’s category, Bhiwani is overall champion, while Jhajjar won runner-up trophy, said Sudha Bhasin, District Sports Officer (DSO).

In the 3000m steeplechase (men), Jind’s Jaibir clinched the gold medal, followed by Kapil from Mahendragarh with silver and Aryan from Karnal won bronze.

In the 3000m steeplechase (women) event, Ankita from Sonepat won gold medal, while Vijata from Karnal secured silver, and Chhoti Devi from Hisar finished with bronze.

In the 500m (men) event, Mohan from Charkhi Dadri won gold, Vansh from Sonepat bagged the silver and Rahul from Jhajjar won bronze. Rewari’s Avinash claimed gold in the triple jump (men), while Mangeram from Sirsa got silver and Rohit Kumar from Fatehabad bagged bronze, she added.

In the hammer throw (men), Gaurav from Sonepat dominated the event to take first place, while Hunny and Akash, both from Bhiwani, secured second and third positions, respectively.

The 4x100m mixed relay was won by Sonepat, while Bhiwani and Fatehabad finishing second and third, respectively. In the 4x400m mixed relay, Jind emerged victorious, followed by Bhiwani in second place and Faridabad in third.

Deputy Director of the department Rakesh Pandey and DSO Sudha Bhasin honoured the winners.
