Sonepat DC takes note of sewage overflow in Double Storey Society

Deputy Commissioner Dr Manoj Kumar has taken a strong note of the ongoing sewage overflow problem in Double Storey Society area of the city, directing Municipal Corporation (MC) officials to address the problem without delay. Residents have been enduring the problem for an extended period.

On Monday, Dr Kumar, accompanied by Dr Naresh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of the MC and other officials, visited Double Storey Society area to assess the situation. During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with residents and instructed officials to implement permanent solutions to prevent sewage from overflowing at the doorsteps of people’s homes.

The DC suggested if necessary, sewage water could be redirected to an alternative sewage line. He further discussed similar sewage overflow problems in areas such as Sarang Road, Old DC Road, Shahpur Turk village and Baba Nagar with Dr Naresh Kumar.

The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to organise a meeting to identify the root causes of sewage overflow problems and to formulate effective resolutions based on the findings.

During the visit, residents informed the DC about illegal meat shops operating under the Rohtak flyover. They claimed the shopkeepers discarded meat waste into the sewage system, attracting rats that damaged the lines, exacerbating the overflow problem.

In response, Dr Manoj Kumar instructed officials to shut down the illegal meat shops under the flyover immediately. He also requested details of all sewage-related project files sent to the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) headquarters so the matter could be discussed with higher authorities, allowing work to commence promptly.
