Director (Student Welfare) Madan Khichar was the chief guest at the event.

Addressing the students, Khichar said World Red Cross Day was observed every year on May 8, marking the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the founder of Red Cross.

The primary objective of Red Cross was to promote humanitarian values and selfless service to those in need, he added.

Red Cross Society operated on principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality, he said, adding that it also worked to raise awareness about blood donation and provided emergency assistance during natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. He encouraged volunteers to serve humanity even in adverse situations.

A video message from Haryana Governor and Haryana Red Cross Society president Bandaru Dattatreya was played during the event.

Programme coordinator Dr Chander Shekhar Dagar welcomed all attendees and gave a detailed overview of the significance of Red Cross Day.

Winning students were awarded for their efforts.
