State to absorb Group D candidates on waiting list

Acceding to the long-pending demnd of hundreds of unemployed youth, the Haryana Government has decided to absorb Group-D wait-listed candidates against vacant posts in 74 departments of the state government.

After reviewing the vacancy position, modalities to absorb the wait-listed candidates would be worked out by the state government, sources said.

On December 13, the Office of the Chief Secretary had sought the status report on the number of Group-D employees being relieved and joining new departments after re-allocation of the departments for Group-D staff by December 20.

In one of the biggest recruitment drives in the state’s history, the Haryana Government had recruited 18,216 Group-D employees before the 2019 parliamentary and Assembly elections through the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC).

However, hundreds of posts remained vacant in the 74 departments on account of non-joining, unwillingness, resignation and re-allocation of departments among the selected candidates.

The category-wise data was not available either with the state government or the HSSC prompting the Chief Secretary’s Office to seek details from various departments through a communication on December 13.

Absorption on the vacant posts was the major demand of wait-listed candidates in the run-up to the parliamentary and state Assembly elections. However till now, the state government had been resisting the demand. It has now been conceded to in the wake of the pressure mounted by different sections of society and the vacant posts.

Subhash Lamba, senior leader of the Haryana Sarv Karamchari Sangh (SKS), said the state government’s decision was a “praiseworthy step.”

“The state government’s decision to absorb wait-listed candidates will go a long way in providing employment to unemployed youth,” he added.

Hope for 1,840 aspirants

There are 1,840 wait-listed candidates as against 18,218 candidates recruited by the HSCC. Sources said 3,820 candidates did not join service while there are hundreds of others who quit service after joining.
