State’s railway spend rises 11-fold, LS told

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today informed the Lok Sabha that railway projects are sanctioned and executed “Zonal Railway-wise and not state-wise or constituency-wise”, while responding to an unstarred question by Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda.

The minister said budget allocation for infrastructure and safety works falling fully or partly in Haryana had risen sharply — from an annual average of Rs 315 crore during 2009-14 to Rs 3,416 crore in 2025-26, “nearly 11 times”.

As on April 1, 2025, eight projects — one new line and seven doubling/multitrack works covering 491 km — are under execution at a cost of Rs 6,775 crore. Expenditure of Rs 1,571 crore has been incurred so far, though “no length has been commissioned yet”.

Recently completed works include the Jind-Sonepat new line (89 km, Rs 800 crore), Rewari-Rohtak including the bypass (85 km, Rs 1,001 crore) and the Rohtak-Mehem-Hansi line (64 km, Rs 889 crore). In the past three years and the current year, 20 surveys for 778 km have also been sanctioned.
