Scores of people from all sections of the society participated enthusiastically in it.
The programme was graced by Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand as the chief guest, while Mayor Renu Bala Gupta attended as the guest of honour. All guests offered floral tributes to Sardar Patel, after which chief guest flagged off the Run for Unity, which started from NDRI Chowk, passed through Ambedkar Chowk, and concluded at Karna Stadium.
Addressing the gathering, Anand said that Sardar Patel was a great visionary who dedicated his life to strengthening the country. “Today is a day of pride and inspiration for every Indian as we celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, who India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister,” he said.
The MLA said Mahatma Gandhi had conferred the title of ‘Iron Man’ for his firm determination and exceptional leadership. Speaking about the Statue of Unity, Anand said, “The Statue of Unity in Gujarat stands as a global symbol of India’s oneness and pays tribute to the man who made the dream of a united India come true.” He emphasised that Sardar Patel’s life taught the importance of strength through unity and urged citizens to uphold his ideals to build a stronger nation.
