Sub-Inspector killed for taking on drunk youths in Hisar

The Sub-Inspector was posted in the office of the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in Hisar. Sources said he had confronted a group of drunken youths who were creating a nuisance near his house. Though they initially left, they returned after about 20-30 minutes and began hurling abuses. When Ramesh and his nephew Amit stepped out after hearing the commotion, they were attacked with sticks and bricks.
Ramesh Kumar sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead. His nephew suffered minor injuries. After receiving information, senior police officers, including ADGP Hisar Range KK Rao and SP Shashank Kumar Sawan, reached the spot.
A case was registered at the HTM Police Station on Amit Kumar’s statement against 10 identified and several unidentified persons under Sections 103(1), 115, 191(2), 191(3), 333, 351(3) and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The SP said five persons had been arrested – Mahender (54), alias Gabbar, of Dhani Shyamlal, his son Subhash (20), alias Sahil alias Budha, Praveen (33), alias Lalla, of Vinod Nagar, Jatin (33) of Tilak Nagar, and Narendra (28) of Multani Chowk.
He said three of the accused sustained injuries while trying to flee when the police tracked them down. A car and two scooters used in the crime were also impounded, as the accused had abandoned the vehicles while escaping.
SP Sawan said preliminary examination suggested a fatal head injury as the cause of death. He said the deceased was survived by his wife, two daughters and a son, and that the department would extend all possible support to the bereaved family.
