The minister said the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana was an initiative, under which the Central Government provided Rs 60,000 and the State Government contributed Rs 50,000, making a total subsidy of Rs 1.10 lakh for each beneficiary. under the scheme, households with an income less than Rs 1.80 lakh are eligible for a subsidy for installing solar panels up to 2 kilowatts.

Energy Minister Vij further said it was important for beneficiaries to spread awareness and demonstrate to others that once solar panels were installed, electricity would become almost free. The power generated during the day from solar panels could easily meet a household’s daily electricity needs and electricity bills would be done away with altogether. The scheme is not limited to 2 kW systems; it also covers higher capacities. For example, those installing panels up to 3 kW receive a subsidy of Rs 78,000.

He also appealed to party workers to inform all about solar panel installation and encourage them to adopt it. Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a total of 23 beneficiaries from Ambala Cantonment received subsidy cheques on Friday.
