Sufficient evidence against Ilahi: Panipat SP

Noman Ilahi, arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistani organisations, was in regular touch with his handler Iqbal Kana in Pakistan. This was revealed in the forensic examination of his mobile phone after the police recovered a long trail of chats and voice messages.

"On the basis of the evidence, the Panipat police will soon produce the chargesheet against him in the court," said Bhupender Singh, SP, while interacting with the media today.

He said Ilahi, who was a matriculate, was in regular touch with his handler. "We recovered the mobile phone from him, but he had deleted the call chats and other details. The phone has been sent to a forensic laboratory to retrieve the data," he said.

“We have sufficient evidence against him, and it will be produced in the court, along with the chargesheet,” he added.

Investigation has revealed that the accused had been allegedly spying for around two years, and supplying sensitive information of the Army’s movement. He came in contact with his handler, Iqbal Kana, on a visit to Pakistan to meet his aunts.

The investigation agencies, who took him to his hometown in UP, seized six passports and a Pakistani identity card of Iqbal Kana, prepared under the name of Siddiqi.
