A special summary revision of the electoral rolls for Municipal Corporation elections in Gurugram and Manesar cities and Municipal Council polls in Pataudi and Farukhanagar towns began this week.

The voters’ lists from the previous Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections will serve as a base for these local body elections. From December 16, these lists will be distributed at all polling stations. The draft of these voters’ lists will be available on December 17, allowing the residents to verify their details such as names, addresses and photographs. The corrections or updates can be submitted until December 23.

The District Election Officer-cum-District Magistrate Ajay Kumar stated that as per the Haryana Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 1994, all claims and objections regarding the voters’ lists would be resolved by December 27.

The dissatisfied voters can appeal to the district election officer until December 31, with final resolutions by January 3, 2025. The revised voters’ list will then be published on January 6, which will serve as the basis for these civic body elections.

Ajay Kumar said transparency and accuracy would be paramount in the preparation of voters’ lists so as to ensure free, fair and impartial elections.

The district administration had already completed the delimitation and seat reservation process for Gurugram and Manesar civic bodies a few months ago.

In Gurugram, there are a total of 36 wards, in which, wards 34, 16 and 28 havebeen reserved for Scheduled Caste category (SC). Ward 34 has been exclusively reserved for Scheduled Caste (women) while Ward 26 has been reserved for Backward Class (BC) women. Wards 2, 12, 15, 18, 20, 21, 24, 29, 30 and 33 have been reserved for women belonging to the general category. Wards 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 19, 22, 23, 25, 27, 31, 32, 35 and 36 have been reserved for general category candidates.

In Manesar city, there are a total of 20 wards, of which seven wards have been reserved for women. Wards 15, 16 and 20 has been reserved for the Scheduled Castes category. Out of these three wards, Ward 15 has been reserved for the women belonging to the Scheduled Caste.

Wards numbers 8,9 and 17 have been reserved for Backward Classes-A category. Out of these, Ward 9 has exclusively been reserved for women belonging to the Backward Classes-A category.

Subsequently, out of the remaining 16 wards, Wards 2, 3, 14, 18 and 19 have been reserved for women candidates while the general categories candidates could file their nomination papers for elections to Wards 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 17, which are open for all contestants.
