Responding to rising concerns over crop loss due to recent heavy rains in Ellenabad, the Sirsa district administration has ordered a special girdawari (survey) to assess the damage. The move follows appeals by Ellenabad MLA Bharat Singh Beniwal and Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) national president Ajay Singh Chautala.

According to the Sirsa Deputy Commissioner’s office, tehsildars of Ellenabad and Nathusari Chopta have been directed to inspect affected villages and submit detailed reports. These will help determine compensation for farmers whose crops have been severely damaged due to waterlogging caused by continuous rainfall.

MLA Beniwal wrote to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini on August 1, urging swift compensation for affected farmers. He stated that over 2,200 acres of cotton, moong, cluster beans and guar crops were destroyed in villages like Shakkar Mandori, Shahpuria, Rupana Ganja and others. In many cases, the farmers had to uproot damaged crops to prepare for the next sowing cycle.

Beniwal requested immediate opening of the crop loss compensation portal and proposed compensation between Rs 30,000 and Rs 35,000 per acre to help the farmers recover from their losses.

On the same day, JJP president Ajay Chautala visited several flood-hit villages, including Shahpuria and Rupana Bishnoian. Expressing concern over damaged cotton fields, he demanded a special girdawari and compensation of Rs 60,000 per acre to be paid directly into the farmers’ accounts. Chautala also warned about rising water levels in the Hisar-Ghaggar drain, which could affect around 25 nearby villages if it overflowed. He blamed the state government for poor maintenance of the drain, saying timely cleaning could have prevented much of the damage.
