Two women were brutally murdered by their husbands in separate incidents in Sirsa district within just 48 hours. Both cases are linked by a common motive -- suspicion over the wife’s character.

On Monday morning, the police received information about the murder of a woman named Aarti in Mirpur Colony, Sirsa. Preliminary investigation suggests that Aarti was strangled to death by her husband Makhan Singh. The couple often argued and reportedly suspected each other’s loyalty, leading to regular fights.

The incident took place early in the morning -- between 7:30 am and 8 am -- when Aarti and Makhan were alone at home. Their two teenage sons were staying with their maternal aunt during the summer holidays. Neighbours found Aarti lying unconscious on a cot and immediately informed her family and the police.

Aarti’s father, Dinesh Sharma, told reporters that his daughter had been married to Makhan since 2004. He claimed that Makhan regularly doubted Aarti’s character and the couple had fought many times. While efforts were made in the past to resolve their issues through community meetings, he never imagined the situation would turn fatal. Makhan, who works at a motorcycle repair shop, has been missing since the incident.

The police, led by SHO Sukhdev Singh of Sadar police station, arrived at the scene and began investigation. The house has been sealed and a forensic team has collected evidence. A murder case has been registered. A search is underway to locate the absconding accused.

Just two days earlier, on Saturday, a murder took place in Rampura Dhillon village. In this case, a man named Rohtash allegedly killed his wife Maya Devi with a sharp-edged tool (kassi) after a heated argument.

According to the police, Rohtash returned home late on Friday night and found Maya missing. When she returned later, he questioned her and a quarrel followed. Later, both lay down separately in the courtyard. Rohtash told the police during initial questioning that he couldn’t sleep due to anger, while his wife appeared to sleep peacefully. Enraged, he brought a ‘kassi’ from inside and attacked her, fatally striking her neck. The blow reportedly separated her head from her body.

Rohtash has been taken into custody and confessed to the crime during interrogation.
