Swedish firm Saab starts construction of Jhajjar unit

New Delhi, March 4

Swedish company Saab today marked the start of construction of its manufacturing facility at Jhajjar to make its Carl Gustaf series of weapons. The first such facility outside Sweden is located north-west of New Delhi. Carl Gustaf weapons are used by several NATO countries.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held today. The company has obtained 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) approval from the government.

The Swedish firm has established a new company, Saab FFVO India Private Limited, which will fully own the new manufacturing facility and produce Carl-Gustaf M4 weapons. Saab said it would deploy complex technologies, including the latest sighting technology and advanced carbon fibre winding, to manufacture Carl-Gustaf M4 for the Indian armed forces and components that might be included in other systems.
