Talks with authorities inconclusive, PGIMS doctors to continue strike

The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of Rohtak PGIMS and PGIDS has decided to continue its strike partially and withhold elective services as talks with the institute authorities remained inconclusive.

“The meeting of our representatives with the UHS/PGIMS authorities was constructive and the demands submitted by the RDA related to the safety of PGIMS campus were addressed by the authorities. However, some issues remain unresolved and we shall continue to withhold our elective services till our crucial demands are met,” read a statement issued by the RDA.

Meanwhile, the protesting resident doctors donated blood and also requested visitors to do so at a blood donation camp organised by them on the PGIMS campus. More than 100 units of blood was collected at the camp.

The protesting doctors also continued to hold parallel OPDs in a park on the PGIMS campus today.

The resident doctors of the PGIMS have been striking work and staging protest demonstrations against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, in addition to pressing for their demand to ensure the provision of adequate safety on the PGIMS campus, for the past 12 days.

They have got the support of MBBS students and interns, besides faculty members of the institute.

The associations of Haryana Civil Medical Services (HCMS) and Haryana Civil Dental Services (HCDS) doctors, apart from the Indian Medical Association, have also extended their support to the protesting doctors.

Representatives of the Haryana Civil Medical Services (HCMS) Association met Rohtak MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra and submitted a memorandum seeking justice for the Kolkata doctor who was raped and murdered. The association also demanded the Central Protection Act and the provision of adequate safety measures at the local health facilities.

The association members demanded creation of a police post at the local Civil Hospital and PCR vans at the other health facilities, handing over of the security of hospitals to a security agency, installation of sufficient CCTV cameras and a 24X7 control room, besides fixed working hours for doctors.
