A government school teacher was allegedly shot dead by her father-in-law over a family dispute in Bhagat Singh Colony here on Sunday night.

Manju Rani (40) was posted at the Government Primary School in Huda Sector 19 here. She is survived by two teenage sons and her husband.

As per the police complaint lodged by the deceased’s brother Sanjay Kumar, her father-in-law Lal Singh, an ex-servicemen, allegedly opened fire at her from his licensed gun after an altercation with Manju and her husband Jaivinder Singh late Sunday night. He alleged that she sustained a bulled injury in the head and died on the spot and her father-in-law fled the spot.
