Teachers should work in accordance with NEP-2020: Education Minister

University teachers should work with dedication in accordance with the guidelines of National Education Policy-2020. This was said by Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda while addressing deans, heads of departments, and the Registrar at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani, on Friday.

The Education Minister was holding discussions with the university faculty on various dimensions of NEP-2020.

During the interaction, he reviewed the steps being taken by the university to implement the NEP. He said youngsters were increasingly moving away from agriculture. Therefore, they should be made aware of new developments in the agricultural sector through research, and encouraged to reap the benefits of farming.

He cited examples of the profitability of dairy farming and natural farming businesses. He emphasised the need to impart education that developed skills in line with the requirements of the country’s industries. He praised the research carried out at the university in recent years, expressed happiness at the new courses being launched this year in line with NEP-2020, and appreciated the university administration’s initiative to work in collaboration with industry. The meeting, which lasted nearly three hours, witnessed suggestions from Raj Nehru, OSD to the CM.

He said skill development programmes should be designed according to the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) so that knowledge, skills, and competency levels could be effectively developed in students.

He also suggested linking research work with social concerns, and making special efforts to commercialise patents so that the benefits of research could directly reach society. He also recommended working on research projects that addressed local problems.

University Vice-Chancellor Deepti Dharmani said NEP had been fully implemented across departments and affiliated colleges. Students were being given flexibility in subject selection, the option to rejoin or drop courses, and the opportunity to pursue two courses simultaneously, the VC added, stating that the university had was working on an ‘exams on demand’ policy.
