In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old youth was arrested on Tuesday for the brutal murder of his 33-year-old sister in Fatehabad. Police said the accused, identified as Hasanpreet alias Monty, a resident of Jhanda Kalan village in Punjab, allegedly killed his sister Radhika alias Ramandeep over suspicions about her character.

According to police, the accused attacked his sister with a wooden stick, inflicting multiple serious injuries. The woman, married for nine years and the mother of a seven-year-old daughter, was rushed to the local Civil Hospital in critical condition and later referred to Agroha Medical College, where she died during treatment.

The crime took place at Radhika’s residence in Fatehabad. Police reached the spot shortly after receiving information and were joined by a forensic team that collected evidence from the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the murder was likely driven by the brother’s suspicions regarding his sister’s character. After committing the crime, Hasanpreet fled the scene but was tracked down within hours through technical surveillance and local intelligence inputs.

A complaint in the case was lodged by the victim’s younger sister, Komal, following which the police registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police officials said the accused would be produced before court on Wednesday and that police remand would be sought to probe the murder conspiracy, recovery of the weapon, and any additional motives behind the killing.

Meanwhile, Fatehabad police revealed that Radhika was the second wife of contractor Omkar Singh, who had earlier married in 2009 and has two children from his first marriage. Radhika often posted photos with his children on social media. At the time of the incident, her seven-year-old daughter was reportedly with Omkar’s first wife.

Police said that the complex family ties and background of the victim would also be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
