In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old boy has been detained by the police for allegedly setting his father on fire in their rented house in Faridabad’s Naveen Nagar area. The father, 55-year-old Alam Ansari, succumbed to his burn injuries in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to police sources, the minor locked his father inside a room on the first floor of their house and set it ablaze in a fit of anger. It is believed that the boy was frustrated over being scolded by his father for neglecting his studies and indulging in bad habits.

The tragedy unfolded around 1:00 am on Tuesday. As the flames engulfed the room, Ansari screamed for help, alerting the landlady living on the ground floor. "I saw the victim’s son jump from the first floor and run away as soon as the fire spread beyond control," the landlady informed the police.

Despite efforts by locals and the fire brigade, Ansari could not be saved. The police report states that he had moved into the house as a tenant in September last year along with his son. Neighbours claimed that he frequently scolded his son for his lack of focus on studies and involvement in undesirable activities.

A police official confirmed that the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and the minor is in custody for further investigation. "We have registered a case and are probing the incident," the official stated.
