As stray animals continue to be a cause of inconvenience to residents, the Thanesar Municipal Council (MC) has launched a one-week special drive to catch and shift the stray cattle to gaushalas.

The MC has formed a team to catch the stray cattle roaming freely under its limits.

Local residents said the presence of stray cattle on roads not only made it unsafe for commuters but for the cattle as well. Stray animals roam on the roads and thrive on garbage dumped along the roads. The situation gets worse during the late hours as it becomes difficult to spot them and people get injured. Stray cattle can be spotted not only in markets but in residential areas too.

An official in the Thanesar Municipal Council said following the directions of the state government, a campaign had been launched and action would also be taken against those who left their animals on roads. The MC would identify these people and impose hefty fines on them.

No exact data was available on the number of animals roaming on the roads, but the MC employees will make efforts to catch the maximum number of cattle. On day one, a drive was carried out in the areas of Sector 7, Pipli Road, and nearby colonies, and eight stray cattle were shifted to Mathana gaushala.

Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Devender Narwal, said, “A one-week special campaign has been launched by the council to catch stray animals and shift them to the gaushalas at Mathana and Barna villages. A team of four employees was formed and a tractor trolley has been provided to them for the task. The gaushalas get grants from the government and the operators have given consent to accept the animals. The Animal Husbandry Department will do the tagging and vaccination of the stray animals. Sometimes these animals become a cause of accidents, resulting in loss of life and property. We appeal to the people not to leave their cattle on the roads and make arrangements for their food and shelter at their own level.”
