The tunnel led directly to the bank’s strongroom, but the thieves left empty-handed, possibly frightened by the alarm on the bank premises.

The incident came to light on Monday morning when bank officials arrived and discovered the tunnel inside the strongroom. They immediately informed the police, who began investigation using fingerprint analysis and a dog squad.

Branch Manager Ramraj Meena stated that the bank had been closed over the weekend. When the staff returned on Monday, they found a hole in the strongroom floor and noticed that the tunnel dug from a nearby field to the bank.

The Dabwali Sadar police team, led by ASP Mayank Mudgil, inspected the scene and registered a case against unknown persons.

SHO Brahmaprakash explained that the thieves had removed bricks from the bank’s rear wall, which faced the field, and dug the tunnel leading to the strongroom floor. “It seems they feared triggering the alarm, so abandoned the attempt and fled without taking anything,” said the SHO.

Meanwhile, residents reported hearing the bank's alarm late Sunday night. However, no police or security personnel responded at the time. It is believed that the alarm might have scared off the thieves.
