A crime unit team of Farrukhnagar, led by Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar, arrested the accused from Khedla T-point, Sohna, on Friday night. All three of them were taken in two days’ police custody after being produced in a city court on Saturday.

According to a complaint filed by the businessman on December 18, he said on December 16, he got a WhatsApp call on his mobile phone, wherein the caller demanded extortion of Rs 50 lakh from him and threatened to kill him and his family if he failed to pay the money.

“I was scared and gave them Rs 5 lakhs, but they again called me on December 18 and asked for the rest of the amount and threatened to kill me again. That is when I approached the police,” said the complainant.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the BNS at the Rajendra Park police station.

“During interrogation it was revealed that Ravi knew the businessmen and since he knew that the victim was wealthy, he and his associates decided to commit the crime. We are questioning them,” said Varun Dahiya, ACP (Crime).
