Three nabbed with narcotics in Sirsa
The Sirsa police have nabbed three drug peddlers and seized a large quantity of contraband this week.
On Monday, the Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested a smuggler from the Old Housing Board Colony in Sirsa. The accused has been identified as Ramchalitar Kumar, alias Ritesh Kumar, a native of Gaya in Bihar, was living in Sirsa on rent. Cops seized 1.526 kg of opium, estimated to be worth around Rs 3 lakh, from his possession.
Sub-Inspector Rajender Singh said a case under the NDPS Act had been registered against Ramchalitar.
On Sunday, acting on a tip-off, cops nabbed a youngster, who tried to escape on seeing the police, near T-Point in Patli Dabar village. A search in the presence of a senior officer led to the seizure of 115 grams of opium from his pocket.
In another incident, a youth was arrested near the railway crossing on Kanganpur Road in Friends Colony, Sirsa. He was caught and found with 6.3 grams of heroin. Sub-Inspector Prem Kumar said both individuals had been booked under the NDPS Act.
Meanwhile, Sirsa Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma chaired a meeting on Monday to discuss steps to curb drug abuse in the district. He stressed the need for a well-planned campaign and urged the police to take strict action against drug trafficking. He also emphasised promoting sports among youth to keep them away from drugs.
Superintendent of Police Dr Mayank Gupta supported the idea and said public cooperation and involvement of social organisations would be key in this effort. The DC urged the people to report any drug related activity and to support police in creating a drug-free society.
He suggested that schools and colleges regularly educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Parents and teachers should communicate positively with children and help guide them away from addiction. Additionally, the Health Department has been directed to ensure that chemists only sell medicines prescribed by doctors.
