Thunderstorm leads to power shutdown in Panipat, Sonepat

A dusty thunderstorm on Wednesday evening that hit Panipat and Sonepat led to power shutdown in the districts.

Scores of electricity poles broke, trees were uprooted and power lines got damaged at many places leading to power shutdown.

According to information, the intensity of the thunderstorm was much more compared to the one that occurred in the beginning of this month.

Due to the heavy thunderstorm, the power is badly disrupted in Panipat. The sheds of the toll plaza on the elevated highway also broke, a heavy tree fell on Jatal road near 8 Marla Chowk here. An under-construction building collapsed and two people were trapped under the debris.

Aaditya Kundu, XEN, Sub Urban, said the power supply at 35 power houses got hit as the poles and cables fell down. The teams of UHBVN began restoring the power supply. Power supply of seven power houses was restored, Kundu claimed.

In Sonepat, the thunderstorm led to power shutdown. Ashwani Kaushik, XEN Sub Urban, said the power supply was badly disrupted due to high intensive thunderstorm in the evening.

The teams are on job to restore power supply in the district, Kaushik said.
