While flagging off a school mountaineering team at Chandigarh on Monday, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said tourism would be promoted in a big way through adventure sports in the state.

The expedition of students has been organised by the School Education Department and Adventure Club.

The CM said to promote adventure activities in Haryana, Sardar Milkha Singh Club had been established at Morni which is conducting many activities in the area. Apart from this, trekking routes are also being explored in the Aravalli hills for the youth so that adventure structure can be enhanced in south Haryana. As many as 1,000 youths would be trained, he added.

Under a scheme to promote mountaineering, the state is awarding an amount of Rs 5 lakh to the students who will climb any of the 10 highest peaks of India.

The Chief Minister said this time, 100 students were participating in mountaineering. Of them, 22 are specially abled.

Education Minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar said Rs 40 lakh would be spent on the 13-day mountaineering programme.Persons going in this mountaineering team will climb the Bharatpur Yunam peak of Lahaul at a height of 6,111m.
