Dr Kumar said the objective of the camp was to identify persons who were suffering from symptoms of TB but were unable to go to the health centre.

“Cough for more than two weeks, fevers in the evening, weight loss and lack of appetite are the main symptoms of TB,” said Dr Kumar.

Under the drive, teams comprising multipurpose health workers and ASHAs went door-to-door to screen potential patients, he added.

“Persons who showed symptoms were called to the camp to be examined by the mobile team,” he said. “All these tests and treatments are completely free. If TB is confirmed in any person, his/her treatment is done free of cost by the government. Nutritional assistance of Rs 1,000 is also provided every month.”

“People can contact toll free number 1800-11-6666 for any information or help related to TB,” said Dr Kumar.
