Two held for tubewell cable thefts

With the arrest of two persons, the Karnal police claimed to have cracked 15 cases of thefts targeting tubewell equipment in the rural areas. The accused, identified as Sanjay, a resident of Bada Gaon village, and Amarjeet, a resident of Mangapur village, were arrested by the anti-burglary cell in the Kunjpura area on May 26, said DSP Rajiv Kumar.

He maintained that the accused were involved in theft cases specifically targeting tubewell wires and starters. “They conducted recce during the day and committed thefts in the night,” the DSP said, while adding that both accused were drug addicts, and sold stolen items for cash which they used for buying drugs.

After their arrest, the accused were produced before a court which sent them to three-day police custody. After completion of the remand, they were sent to judicial custody on Friday, the DSP said.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that they committed thefts. The police recovered Rs 60,000 in cash, which they had earned by selling the stolen equipment.
