Two held with heroin worth Rs1crore

The value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore. The police said this was the largest heroin consignment ever seized in the district.
Additional Superintendent of Police Amrinder Singh said on the directions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, a special campaign was launched against drug abuse in the district.
He said a team consisting of Sub-Inspector Makhan Singh, ASI Surinder Singh, Rajinder Singh, Pankaj and Constable Lokesh was formed under the leadership of in-charge of Anti Burglary Staff, Anil Kumar.
He further said the team was patrolling near the Western Yamuna Canal bridge on Saharanpur Road in Yamunanagar when the team received information that two persons had arrived in Yamunanagar with the intention of selling heroin and were waiting for customers on Saharanpur Road in Yamunanagar.
He further said acting on the information, the team planned a raid under the supervision of DSP (Headquarters) Kanwaljit Singh.
“The police team reached the spot and apprehended the two suspects. During the interrogation, they were identified as Sartaj and Nahim, both residents of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh,” said ASP Amrinder Singh.
He said during the interrogation, 1.103 kg heroin was found in a bag which was in possession of Sartaj.
“During the interrogation, the accused revealed that they had brought the consignment from Uttar Pradesh to deliver it in Yamunanagar,” said Amrinder Singh.
Chamkaur Singh, a police spokesman, said a case had been registered against both accused under the NDPS Act at the City police station, Yamunanagar.
He said they were produced before a court in Jagadhri and the court sent them to five-day police custody.
