The accused have been identified as Rashpal, alias Manga, of Mandhar village and Gurpreet of Kharwan village. Chamkaur Singh, a police spokesperson, said both accused were produced before a Jagadhri court separately on Thursday, and were sent to judicial custody.

He said, on the directions of Superintendent of Police Rajeev Deswal, teams of the district police had been carrying out a special drive against persons possessing illegal weapons. CIA-I In-charge Virender Walia said officials received information that a man roaming near Dadupur-Nalvi Canal near Kharwan village was carrying an illegal weapon.

He said he immediately formed a team, which arrested the accused.

The team recovered an illegal weapon (a ‘desi’ double-barrel 12-bore musket) and two live cartridges from the accused’s possession, he added, stating that the accused was booked under the Arms Act.

In a separate incident, CIA-II In-charge Raj Kumar said, based on a tip-off, they arrested one Rashpal, alias Manga, of Mandhar village, from near Bambholi village of the district.

He said an illegal pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from his possession. A case was registered against the accused under the Arms Act, he added.
