The Karnal police have arrested two sharpshooters allegedly involved in the firing incident that occurred at Meenakshi Hospital in Assandh on July 8. The arrests were made from Jind district last night.

Two country-made weapons and five live cartridges were seized from their possession. Six accused have already been arrested in the case.

The arrested sharpshooters were identified as Mohit (alias Mohita) of Ferozabad district in Uttar Pradesh and Sobhit of Rampur under the Hathras police station in UP, said Ganga Ram Punia, Superintendent of Police (SP). Mohit is presently living in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.

Both accused had suffered bullet injuries and were taken to a hospital in Jind from where Mohit was taken to the PGI, Rohtak.

Following a tip-off that two sharpshooters involved in the July 8 incident were in Jind district, the SP constituted two teams, one led by Inspector Mohan Lal (CIA-2 incharge) and the second one led by Sub-Inspector Surinder.

Around midnight, they were traced, but they opened fire on police personnel. The police retaliated and both accused were injured. They were apprehended. Later, they said gangster Daler Kotia had asked them to open fire at the hospital, the SP said.

Accused Mohit was wanted in several cases, including the murder of a petrol station owner in Sri Ganganagar, while Sobhit is wanted in a murder case in Hathras.

“A case has been registered under Sections 186, 353, 307 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act, along Section 3 of the PDP Act in Jind,” the SP said.
