Two Sirsa cops booked for extortion bid in honey-trap case

The Civil Lines police have registered a case against two police officers — Sub-Inspector Jagdish Chandra and Exemptee Sub-Inspector (ESI) Vijay Kumar — on charges of corruption and criminal conspiracy. Both were posted at the Sadar police station.

The case was filed following a complaint by a grain market trader, who alleged that the officers had framed him in a honey-trap case. The investigation has been handed over to the DSP Headquarters.

According to police sources, the incident took place on October 31, 2025, when a woman from Sardulgarh in Mansa district (Punjab) visited Sadar police station to lodge a sexual harassment complaint against the trader. Outside the police station, SI Jagdish Chandra allegedly approached the woman and offered to “resolve the case” in exchange for money.

With her consent, the two officers reportedly conspired to extort around Rs 2.5 lakh from the trader. However, the trader became suspicious and decided to record the entire transaction on video and audio.

He later submitted this evidence to senior police officials, following which a preliminary inquiry was ordered. The inquiry reportedly confirmed the officers’ involvement in the alleged extortion attempt.

On the basis of the evidence and inquiry findings, the Civil Lines police registered a case against both officers and the woman involved in the conspiracy.

A senior police officer confirmed that the probe had been launched. “The investigation is underway, and strict action will follow if the allegations are proven true,” he said.

Both officers are currently under scrutiny, and the department has initiated internal disciplinary proceedings alongside the criminal investigation.
