SP Chander Mohan on Saturday said those dismissed from the service include two Sub-Inspectors (SIs), two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and a Constable. He said the recommendation of dismissal of an Inspector had also been sent to the department authorities, besides the demotion of two other officials in the district.

He said the action came after departmental enquiries into the complaints were carried out against them and they were found guilty of the charge of various irregularities, including bribery. Three officials, including an SI, an ASI and a woman ASI, were caught red-handed while accepting bribes. He said the department was expected to dismiss an SHO (Inspector) in connection with a bribery case a few months ago as the departmental probe had found him guilty of the allegation and a recommendation had been forwarded to the department.

Adding that a Constable found to be guilty of indiscipline by remaining absent from the duty had also been removed from the service, the SP said another official, who had been dismissed, was found resorting to illegal means to help an accused and switching off the CCTV in the police station to hide his illegal acts. An ASI and Head Constable have also been demoted due to misconduct during their duty.

He said while a screening committee would be set up in the district to assess the conduct and work of the police officials, its assessment regarding the work and behaviour would guide the action to be taken in case of any irregularity. He said names of the residents, who informed him on his mobile number about any such incident, would be kept secret.
