Union minister promises rapid relief to flood-hit villages

Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, toured several villages near the Ghaggar on Saturday to assess flood damage and hear residents’ grievances. Villages visited included Farwai, Mirpur, Ahmadpur and Kelenia.

During his visit, Dubey met villagers, listened to concerns about crop loss, waterlogging and disruption to daily life due to poor drainage. He visited flood‑affected areas in the “Ottu Weir” sector and inspected the Hisar‑Ghaggar drain in the Dhani Pratap Singh area.

The minister promised that the government would provide all possible assistance and resolve issues swiftly. Speaking in Farwai, Dubey said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely observing the flood crisis in Haryana and Punjab. He added that both Central and state governments stand with the people during this disaster. “I am a farmer’s son,” Dubey told villagers, “so I understand your hardships.”

Dubey also instructed officials to tighten security measures, strengthen embankments, ensure better water release management and maintain safety protocols along the riverbanks. Villagers raised concerns such as cracked houses, non-acceptance of crop insurance claims and delayed medical services.

As part of relief efforts, the minister distributed kits to affected families and assured them that compensation surveys and medical aid would be coordinated soon. Senior local officials and political leaders joined the visit, including district party heads and administrative officers.

During the tour, Dubey stressed that no laxity would be tolerated and that relief and support operations would be carried out with urgency to help restore normalcy for the flood-hit communities.
