The district police has arrested a resident of Kairana of Uttar Pradesh in Panipat on Thursday night and recovered 360 gm heroin worth Rs 2.5 crore from him.

Inspector Rajpal Singh, Incharge of CIA-1, said a team of the unit got a tip-off that a man was standing under the flyover near Skylark Resort with drugs. It raided the spot and nabbed Sompal of Hingokheri village of Kairana of Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh.

The police team searched Sompal and recovered 360 gm heroin from his possession in a white polythene bag. Rajpal Singh put the cost of the seized drug at Rs 2.5 crore in the international market as it was in pure form.

A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered against Sompal. He was produced in the court on Friday and sent to seven days in police remand. Sompal said he brought the drug from Pune and had to supply it to a youth in Panipat and was waiting for him when he got caught. — TNS
